with two grown up children and five grandchildren all but the youngest two grandchildren (born in 2015) educated in Knaresborough. I was Mayor of the Harrogate Borough Council from May 2010 until May 2011.

Harrogate Borough Council 

I was a  District Councillor representing Knaresborough for over twenty years and retired undefeated in 2014. On the 16 July I was appointed and Honorary Alderman of the Borough in recognition of my service. I was replaced by Liberal Democrat Cllr David Goode.

North Yorkshire County Council

I represent Knaresborough Division, am Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on the County Council, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson on the Audit Committee, The Planning and Regulatory Committee and the Care and Independence  Scrutiny Committee. Bill currently Chairs the Multi Authority Bond End Steering Groupwhich is looking for solutions to the air quality issues.


Chair, Knaresborough LINKS Youth Club Charity;  Vice Chair, Knaresborough Community and Police Group;  Member of the County Council Network.

In my spare time I enjoy fell walking and reading.

A basic annual allowance of £8994 per annum.

Travel Expenses (mileage, train fares). Lunch provided in the County Council canteen or a buffet when meetings finish at lunchtime.

A  printer with paper and ink cartridges.

Travel expenses claimed April 2012 to March 2013 =£678
